FUNdamentals and Building Blocks Therapy is excited to have Whitney Pimental, Speech Language Pathologist from Talk Tools, coming to conduct evaluations at our clinic. The Talk Tools company is a valuable resource for oral motor products used for speech and feeding. You have probably seen your clinician use many of these products with your child! If you clinician has used bite blocks, the straw hierarchy kit, or chewy tubes, it is likely they came from Talk Tools. Talk Tools has a “travel clinic” program that allows their SLPs to travel to various clinics throughout the country and conduct 1:1 evaluations with children, their families, and their current SLP. Please see the following document for more information about the travel clinic (including pricing and time frame): Whitney P Travel Clinic 2012.
Who is appropriate for a Talk Tools evaluation?
Anyone with dysarthria (i.e., weak muscles) or significant oral motor delays impacting feeding and articulation. Talk Tools programs involve oral motor strengthening for better range of motion, strength, and placement for feeding and speech. If you have questions about whether your child would be appropriate for the 1:1 evaluation through the travel clinic, please speak with your therapist. She should be able to recommend if the evaluation is appropriate.
Are the evaluations limited to Building Blocks clients?
While FUNdamentals and Building Blocks Therapy is hosting the Talk Tools travel clinic, the evaluations are NOT limited to Building Blocks clients. If you know anyone who may benefit from this evaluation and they receive therapy services elsewhere, please pass on this information. They are welcome to sign up for the evaluation and bring along their therapist too.
As therapists, we are excited to have the travel clinic come to our office! We will be able to observe and learn valuable information, techniques, and tools that we can then incorporate into our daily therapy repertoire.
