Rachel McAdams has been with FUNdamentals and Building Blocks Therapy since 2011. She returned to the Northern VA area after completing her degree at JamesMadisonUniversity.  Rachel recently got married in the Fall of 2012 at a winery in LoudonCounty.

She and her husband have enjoyed traveling this year, as they honeymooned in the Caribbean, spent Valentine’s Day in Italy, and just returned from a beach weekend!

In therapy, Rachel has been using the following iPad apps with her clients:

Sentence Maker: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sentence-maker/id499150658?mt=8

Sentence Builder: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sentencebuilder-for-ipad/id364197515?mt=8–

The Sentence Maker and Sentence Builder Apps work great for older children who are working on grammar, syntax, sight words and descriptive language. For Sentence builder you need to have some reading skills or have someone 1:1 working with the child, but it has 3 levels of difficulty and tracks progress for different kiddos. Sentence Maker reads words aloud as you touch them and has the correct words already picked out. The child then drags the words to form a complete sentence. You can have the kids say the sentence aloud again once they know it’s right to add the verbal piece.

She also likes the  Kid’s Countdown App with almost ANY kid. It’s a great visual timer to help with transitions. You can pick the amount of time, the kids can pick what picture to reveal and when the Robot or Truck or Rubber Ducky appears it’s time to transition.
