The Joint Skills Social Group is a therapeutic approach to social development. This group is led by a Speech Language Pathologist and a Occupational Therapist. The social group is a fun, interactive program focused on building skills in the areas of language, play, social development, and school readiness. The program is designed to develop and nurture cooperative and imaginary play skills. Language is elicited through structured and unstructured activities and play by creating natural opportunities for social interactions. The children are engaged in a variety of adult and child directed activities in order to help develop and refine gross/fine motor skills and social development. The group will help children actively participate in the classroom. These skills include, but are not limited to, joint attention, waiting, turn-taking, sharing, and pairing language with nonverbal social skills.
