As June winds down, camp preparation picks up! We are busy making supplies, organizing materials, and planning our days. This year’s theme is “Around the World” and we will explore four different environments: Ocean, Desert, Arctic, and the Rain Forest. Each week will have different sensory play and language group activities based on the animals and climates of these different regions.

Our free play morning time will incorporate sensory play and/or games and crafts corresponding the week’s theme.  For example, during Desert week, we’ll explore different kinds of sand sensory boxes: regular sand, kinetic sand, and our homemade sand foam .

(This recipe had to be practiced and perfected at home first!).

We’ll add desert animals to our sand and create sand art.  All of these activities will prepare us for more exploration in our small group rotations (fine motor, language, and gross motor/language).

One thing we are carrying over from last year is the “take home recipe book”. Last year we made one snack each week in our language group and the fine motor group made a recipe card. By the end of our 4 weeks, we had a 4-recipe booklet created by each child to bring home! We will be doing the same thing this year, except this year’s booklet will be “recipes” for directions to make a project (e.g., playdoh, waterwall, etc).  This way your child can teach you how to do these fun/easy sensory play activities at home. Perfect for rainy days or too hot to go outside days!

Please stay tuned for more camp updates both here, via email, and on our  Facebook page. Visit our PInterestpage to see our Camp 2017 board for a sneak peek at some of our activities!

See you next week!
